Using Nextcloud with KOREADER.

I host my own nextcloud server and have all my books in a shared folder: /nextcloud/books/

What I'm doing is using the nextcloud client (on my viwoods mini/android device) - to keep that folder locally sync'd on all my devices. And i am using that local sync'd folder as my koreader HOME folder.
Devices:
-- ViWoods Aipaper Mini (primary - 95% of my reading)
-- Boox Nova 2 (just as a backup... and migrating from it TO the Mini (no one asked but LOVE that mini)
-- Pixel Tablet (just in case I want to read a book and it is what is in my hand... )
(all 3 are running KOReader w/ local /nextcloud/books/ as my HOME directory

What this means is the .sdr files are also being managed in that folder. So I'm expecting that my reading progress/bookmarks/etal should also be kept in sync.

I can verify all my device(s) ARE getting an updated .sdr file - but I would expect that if I open that book on one of those devices - it would open to the last page from my primary device.? That isn't happening.

As a result I have several questions:
1) is this a proper way to keep everything in sync across devices? (seems almost too easy!)
2) should I be using webdav in lieu of nextcloud folder sync for accessing my nextcloud/books folder in KOReader (and how exactly might I do that (I have webdav working... but not as my primary HOME library
3) I am also trying the syncery plugin... but I'm thinking that I am having a conflict between how I'm syncing with Nextcloud and how I'm using a nextcloud folder (e.g.: /nextcloud/ebooksync/) for keeping things in sync?
4) should I be using KOReader's built in progress sync (in lieu of syncery)? (can't find too much on that - so a pointer to a user guide/manual/advice... would be great)
5) if anyone has used syncery plugin with much success?

I love that KOReader is allowing for this type of flexibility... I just need to be tweaking my setup a bit... tried other ebook readers and they don't allow for anything close to this.
