Elmren Voice — turn your epubs into chaptered m4b audiobooks (Mac, runs locally)
Hi all — indie Mac developer here. I have read the "What TTS voices do you use for reading ebooks?" thread and the Calibre TTS-to-MP3 plugin thread many times, so I hope a listening tool is a fit for this forum (mods, please move if not).
I built Elmren Voice, a Mac app that turns ebooks and documents (epub / docx / pdf / txt) into audiobooks: - Imports the book, splits chapters, synthesizes speech, and exports a finished chaptered .m4b audiobook — plus mp3 and a self-contained HTML player with word-by-word highlighting. - 64 built-in voices, or clone your own voice from a ~10-second sample and have your books read to you in your own voice. - Runs 100% locally on Apple Silicon. No cloud voices, no API bills, nothing uploaded. One-time purchase ($39.99), free trial with 120 minutes of synthesis, 7-day refund. Honest notes: - Calibre stays your library manager — this is the listening side. The classic TTS-to-MP3 plugin route is Windows/SAPI; AudioBC and similar open-source projects get you part of the way too. I built this because I wanted Mac-native, chaptered m4b out of one import, and my own voice. - It is AI speech, not human narration — meant for your own library, drafts, and long reading you would otherwise skip. Happy to answer questions and take feature requests. Demo of the word-highlighting player the exports produce: https://elmren.com/demo/?utm_source=...audiobook-line |
