Calibre viewer opens epub with blank page

Calibre viewer opens epub with blank page. On Windows 10.
Calibre recommendations for White page: no result (GUP driver update & slow boot).
Uninstalled Calibre - installed frech, several versions (9.something): doesn't change a thing. Calibre remembers settings and books across-installings (with Revo-uninstaller, thoroughly).
Uninstalled ADEditions: no change.

Same Calibre version on another W10-divice works fine, with or without ADE installed, with or without DeDRM installed. All of which I tried out on the obstinate one as well.

Running out of ideas,

reboot in safe mode and see if it works

Thanks, I will.
In preparation first thoroughly uninstalled Calibre; shut down computer.
Started in safe-mode.
Then installed fresh Calibre (9.15.0 but same issue with older versions): same problem, same 2 books still installed, that open with empty page; freshly added book: same empty page without turning wheel (did give it ample time).

Do you have more ideas?
(and: don't understand procedure for adding screenshot...)

Load the eBooks in the editor and using the epubveri plugin, valitdate the eBooks. Mabe there's an error.
