Clara HD Compiling g_ether module for Kobo Clara HD (P365 - Kernel 4.9.77)

Hi everyone,I am trying to configure the USB port on my Kobo as a network device, but I am running into some issues with the kernel configuration.

My Setup:
Device: Kobo Clara HD (Model N249, PCB P365)
Firmware: 4.45.23697
Kernel version: 4.9.77
(obtained via SSH over Wi-Fi)

The Problem:I initially tried using the RNDIS module since it is already compiled into the kernel (CONFIG_USB_F_RNDIS=y and CONFIG_USB_CONFIGFS_RNDIS=y).

I configured the network settings on both the PC and the eReader, but it doesn't work (ping doesnt respond).

Because of this, I want to try using the g_ether.ko module instead.


However, this module is not compiled in the stock kernel.I extracted the .config from the running kernel and tried to enable g_ether as a module (m), but the configuration script won't allow it.

My Questions:

Can I compile g_ether as a module and expect it to work even if configfs is already built directly into the kernel?

What specific changes or dependencies do I need to modify in the kernel configuration (make menuconfig) to allow g_ether to be built as a loadable module (.ko)?

Any guidance or advice from anyone who has successfully set up USB networking via g_ether on this specific kernel and hardware would be greatly appreciated!
