How slow is Pocketbook compared to an old Kobo?
My current e-reader is a Kobo Aura H20 (first edition), so it's an e-reader released over 10 years ago.
I'd like to replace it, but I don't want a color divice, and I prefer a 7 inch screen. Pocketbook Era (lite) seems an obvious choice, and the most important reason that is still holding me back, is the fact that many users describe Pocketbook as slow. Of course, I'm used to an old e-reader - at release considered as rather fast - so maybe a recent Pocketbook wouldn't appear slower. Any ideas? |

Why are you looking at the PocketBook Era Lite in particular? Have you considered the Boox Go 7?
I have both, and reckon that the Boox device is better overall - though I admit that it's a bit more expensive. I've no idea how fast the old Kobo to which you refer is, but the PocketBook is certainly a bit on the slow side when it comes to loading a book. Once you're in the book, though, there's little to choose. I'm not bothered by the PocketBook's speed, though you might be. IMO, a bigger issue is the firmware. PocketBook's native reader isn't that good. I use KOReader on mine by default. The Boox reader, by contrast, is excellent. |

Why I don't consider a Boox? Because my Onyx Boox i62HD started having problems just after warranty expired (I don't remember which kind of problems it had), and the same happened with my Boox T68 (start-up loop).
(I only had the Poke for a short time, because then I decided I prefered a larger screen.) So until now, I'm not really impressed by Boox. |

That's a shame, but fair enough. I'm sorry to hear it.
