[GUI Plugin] Booktoast

A toast of a line you once highlighted, shown when calibre opens.

- Opening calibre briefly toasts a high-contrast card on the book grid with a viewer highlight, then it disappears
- Prefers highlights that have your notes. A N(Note) in English sits at the end of the line, hover the card to read the note and pause the countdown
- Citation line: book title and relative time
- Click the card for About and settings: how many seconds it stays, optional sound
- Avoids repeating the last three shown highlights
- English, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese languages supported

Install

1. Download Booktoast-1.0.0.zip attached to this post
2. Preferences → Plugins → Load plugin from file → choose the zip
3. Restart calibre. The toast appears when the library opens; the toolbar button opens About / settings.

Requires calibre 6.0+.

Very cool idea, thanks. I have similar plugin currently for my own use but it pops other stuff, similar to an RSS Reader.

Booktoast should be available shortly on calibre's plugin updater.

Thank you. Actually, this project was inspired by an iOS app called Readmate; this app imports highlighted text from another reading app and randomly displays the highlight text when the user opens the app.

I think this feature would also be very useful in desktop applications (especially calibre).

When you've taken many notes on a large amount of highlighted text, these notes can easily evoke memories of past reading experiences. These moments are always delightful and make you to relive some pieces of thoughts you've had.
