Mobileread member zevi svei announced the remarkable python app kindle-reading-dashboard in the Kindle Developer's Corner sub-forum on June 15th in the thread https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=373997 which gives a good description of its capabilities at that time and the README on the github page expands on that and has sample screenshots. But I think installing it and trying it out is the only way to see just how fast and easy it is to browse notes, highlights, and reading stats for all the KF8/azw3 books on your kindle(s).

Since its initial release, support for multiple kindles, highlight text, and KFX has been added.

It also now has a calibre plugin to add reading metadata into columns (which I have not tried).

Note that this works for personal docs as well as books bought from amazon and does not require any interaction with amazon servers ever and gets its information from the .sdr directories and the on-device (unencrypted) book. kindle-reading-dashboard in part builds on the work of mobileread member jhowell on KRDS, which decodes the content of various files in the .sdr directories.

any chance this could work with the calibre plugin? Maybe it needs an update, but it permacrashes on startup on my Kindle Scribe 3

You need to ask on the thread linked above or on github or the developer will probably never see your question.

I haven't installed the calibre plugin and have no plans to do so.

I suspect that kindle-reading-dashboard doesn't support MTP, so you probably need to ask about that.

It's very likely that the file used by KRDS are not exposed when using MTP.

Interesting. I've seen other posts that stated the other than the My Clippings file, the other sources for annotations, etc. are not visible under MTP. I don't own a new enough Kindle for it to have MTP, so no personal experience.

I guess we need to wait for someone who has access to a kindle that uses MTP and is competent to investigate to do so and report back whether the files in .sdr directories are accessible via MTP.

Amazon removed My Clippings file as well in software updates, but .sdr files are accessible

It should still be there until you delete it; update did not remove it on the 3 Kindles running the latest update.
