Stacpoole, H. de Vere: The Blue Lagoon. v1. 22 Aug 2026

This coming-of-age romance novel explores themes of love, childhood innocence, and conflict between civilisation and nature. Two young cousins are shipwrecked on a remote South Pacific island, where they must survive alone after their caretaker dies. Growing up in isolation, they discover the mysteries of nature, maturity, and love without guidance from civilization. As they navigate island dangers and their own transformation into adulthood, their innocent paradise becomes a place of wonder and peril, leading to an ambiguous fate.

The Blue Lagoon was adapted for the stage in 1920. and for film six times, most recently in 2012.
