Can't update 11 year old Kobo

Hello there,

Been using my Kobo for a long, long time now.

It's on KSM 7, and has a koreader version from 2015 installed.

Lately, I've been trying to update to the latest version of Koreader and KSM, without succes.

Update through koreader: failed

Then I tried making the USB connection through KSM, but it will not enable it. Tried 4 different cables, and two laptops.

Tried resetting the kobo, which does nothing.

Am I out of options, besides buying a new one?

You should always be able to start Nickel from within KSM, and I'd expect USB to work from within Nickel even if it doesn't from KSM. But if you mean USB still isn't working even after resetting then it's probably a hardware issue. You could try some isopropyl alcohol or some such on the contacts in the port in that case.

The problem could be your SD card inside your Kobo needs replacing with a new one. You can Go this this thread and request a new firmware image to be able to write to a new SD card.
