Kobo Aura H2O micro-USB
It seems that my old Kobo Aura H2O doesn't like the 2 micro-USB cables that I have (one from my PS4 controller and another random one). When I connect it to my Macbook the reader will charge but not connect as a device. Do I need a special cable? Are my cable too thick for example?

Otherwise I'd get something like this:

That cable will work as long as it's not a problem with the Kobo or the computer.

I had this problem with an old Pocketbook, it would connect to a linux pc but not to my MacBook. Do you have access to a different computer?

I have 2 Macbooks actually, one is my work machine and my own.
So that's weird. The M1 Air doesn't show the Aura H2O but the M3 Pro does. No idea why.

I have windows. But my H2O sometimes crashes with USB3 ports, I have an old USB hub for when it gets fussy.

I never had my H20 crash on USB3 or USBC ports.

There were quite a few reports where Kobo, Kindle and other ereaders had issues with Macs where a USB2 hub between the Mac and the ereader allowed the connection to work.

I have to use an usb hub anyway as Apple doesn’t ship MacBooks with USB A type connectors anymore.
