Metadata reverted to its previous state.

I wonder if anyone else has encountered this issue?
I specifically adjusted the details—such as cover image dimensions, the author's name, and a few minor elements—and successfully updated and embedded the changes.
However, after quite some time, a few of the book files suddenly reverted to their old covers.
I realized this because I always standardize my cover images to a specific aspect ratio; whenever I run the "Quality Check" plugin, files that deviate from my chosen ratio pop up.

Personally I haven't encountered it.

Is your library on a networked drive or a cloud drive? Do you run automatic backup or syncing while calibre is open?

Could it be you accidentality pressed the retrieve cover from the Edit Metadata window?

I simply keep my library on my laptop's hard drive; I don't use a NAS or any cloud storage for synchronization.
The number of affected items isn't actually that large, nor is it a major inconvenience, but I was a bit surprised. I notice this happening every three or four months—sometimes it affects just one or two books, other times a few more.
I suspect that because I have such a large collection of books, there might be some sort of underlying conflict.

I don't think that's the case, because once I've edited a file to my liking, I generally don't touch it again. Those files are located quite far down the list—meaning they're older—so it's unlikely I'd accidentally interact with them.
It’s not just the covers, either; sometimes I’ve changed author names or removed extra characters from book titles. Yet, a while later, a few of them revert to their old state instead of reflecting the updates.
Honestly, there doesn't seem to be any pattern to it, and it doesn't have a major impact, so I’m just sharing this—I wouldn't really classify it as a bug that can be tracked down and fixed.

That's strange. Have you run the library check (especially the part about the files matching the database)?

I also have a large library (over 35 000 books), but I haven't noticed the issue you describe.

Another thing: if the books with the problem are fanfiction and you use the FanFicFare plugin to update them, maybe the plugin is changing the metadata?
