Back up Calibre Library but only epubs

I have a 13000+ book library started many years ago when Kindle didn't allow epubs.

I'm now storing epub, mobi and in some cases azw formats of every book.

I want to freeze my library with a backup and then create another backup of epubs only. I know I can save to disc but I'm concerned I may lose some of my in Calibre formatting if I import them back to a new Calibre Library.

How can I do this safely

Create another, empty library, copy all the books from the first library to the second (right-click: copy to library), then remove all formats besides epub (right-click on the Remove icon, select Remove all formats from selected books except...)

IMHO, it would be easier to create another directory for this ePub only library, copy the existing library to this new directory and then access it and delete the non-ePub as you said.

I would ask, what is your goal? Often there is a better approach someone else has already come up with.

Sirtel's suggestion looks cleanest. Thanks.

If I create a new library within Calibre, copy the existing Library to that, remove everything except epub and back that up I'll have a new slimline backup with all my changes retained

I have no use for anything other than epubs now as they're all I need for my Kindle so they're just using unnecessary disc space
