How to get the Android app to change the font for unformatted text?
I am using the Android app before purchasing the device, just to see how it deals with epub formatting. And it is one of the best on Android. I just have an issue.
Epub files have formatted text. Sometimes headings, some parts of a book, etc can use a differently styled text that the rest of the book. The headings could be a different font, there could be a section of the book that uses monospace, some that uses only sans-serif font. I like keeping things as the author/publisher intended. Kobo works with it rightly most of the time. But sometimes books don't care about most of the text, and this is unformatted, to be changed as per the software reading the book, or how user wants it to be seen. StandardEbooks, for example, have most of their books as unformatted. But the thing is, Kobo App seems to use some sans-serif font for displaying this unformatted text. I don't like this for reading. Of course, I know how to change the font in the app: tap in the middle of the page, tap on the Aa, and choose the font. I know that, but that isn't what I am looking for. If I choose a different font here, say I choose Rakuten Serif, then the other formatted text that the book has: the different embedded fonts, monospace sections, sans-serif sections, etc all also turn into Rakuten Serif. I do not want that. I want only the unformatted part to change. The specifically formatted parts should not change. I am asking if there is a way to do this at all from the app (that is, without editing the epub file) and I am missing something. If there is, I would like to know, please. If not, how can I request this feature, and how likely is it to be implemented? It may seem like a trivial matter to many, but I am very particular about this. Some other apps do have this feature. Others tend to be more like how Kobo handles. Reasily, for instance, leaves the formatted text alone, but it has other issues with pagination, so I am currently preferring Kobo. I have tried many apps, so I am not asking for recommendations for other apps. Further, I'd also like to know if the actual e-ink e-readers have this feature, or if this is how it is there as well. I have tried it on two devices: a Samsung M32 with Andriod 13, and a Samsung Tab A11+ with Android 16. |
