For me, it's simple: I don't track beyond marking the books I've finished as read in calibre, using a custom column. I'm not interested in tracking my reading in more detail (dates, rereading etc).

Most calibre users track their reading via custom columns. You can create any column you want - reading dates, rereading dates, reading status (finished, unread, did not finish etc.) And you can create saved searches/virtual libraries based on those columns and the data in them.

I only do a 'last read date' track.
To read is simply formats:true and not #read

I do have 2 additional 'dates' I use as flags (no date is TBR). 1) 2000 is abandoned. 1999 is my (has been EPUB split, the pieces are what now count)

Could you create a custom column using numbers? Put 1 for first time read, 2 for second time, etc.

There is the Reading Goal plugin. You can track your readings, create goals/challenges, check your statistics, etc. It also has support for rereads.
