Just got a Kobo Clara Colour. It has two problems that keep me from being able to use it efficiently: no file editor (my books/comics are sorted into a nesting folder structure so I can find them easily), and a QWERTY keyboard. I solved the first problem with Koreader, but I'm completely stumped on the second.
Due to physical disabilities I switched to Dvorak years ago, and am now able to type for longer with less pain than I ever could with QWERTY. Thus I need my devices' keyboards to be either alphabetical or Dvorak, otherwise I'm reduced to hunting and pecking. So, any options to change the keyboard an my Kobo? |

Googles Geminii AI suggests this (I did not check it out):
To change the keyboard layout to Dvorak on a Kobo e-reader, you need to add it through the language settings menu. [1] ## How to Switch to Dvorak 1. Open Settings: Tap the More icon at the bottom right of your home screen. 2. Select Settings: Tap on Settings from the menu. 3. Go to Language: Tap Language and dictionaries. 4. Edit Keyboards: Tap Keyboard layouts. 5. Add Dvorak: Check the box next to Dvorak. 6. Save Changes: Tap Save at the bottom of the screen. [2, 3] When typing, tap the Globe icon on the keyboard to cycle through your selected layouts until Dvorak appears. [4] Which Kobo model are you using if these steps look different on your screen? I think this applies to the long discontinued Kobo Android Tablets and NOT the stripped down Linux based eReader devices (ie any of the current Kobo devices)

Some of the Kobo patches allow replacing the current keyboard layout with alternatives so I suspect that a patch to change QWERTY to Dvorak would be possible.
As for using a file based system? Ghod, no! Searching on a Kobo just uses so many fewer keystrokes and options that I would never consider going back to a file based system. |
