Libra 2 Device stops rotating a few minutes after boot

My Kobo libra 2 will rotate normally after reboot but then a few minutes later it locks itself into portrait mode. No amount of rotation of the device will trigger the screen to rotate. Switching the autorotate, landscape, and potrait controls in the reading settings has no effect. In developer options i can manually change the orientation. But the device keeps that orientation doesnt start reacting normally.

I side load books via calibre. I have a stock build. I had to replace my SD card and used an image I got from this site. The rotation problem did not start immediately after the new image though. One thing ive noticed, th serial number that shows up in software does not match the serial number on the bottom of my device (makes sense given the source of my image). But if that were a problem i wouldnt expect it to manifest like this.

Has anyone seen this behavior before?
