Creating mobi with *.prc
I've an old Nokia phone that's quite nice to use & read on, but the Mobipocket reader (for S80 GUI) only opens *.prc files. The existing *.mobi files created by Calibre are fine if renamed as *.prc
It does format reasonably, though no images are displayed. Internal links & TOC works. Can Calibre be configured to name them prc instead of mobi when converting epubs? It's far better than mobipocket on a Palm pda which uses a primitive pdb format with only plain ASCII or similar in it, so many characters don't easily convert. |

MOBI and PRC are not the same while renaming might work much of th etime it wont in general. As for configuring calibre to do that all you need to do is create a stub format output plugin for PRC that calls the MOBI output plugin to implement the ocnversion. AI should be able to cook it up for you with no issues.

I did think Kf7 was a later Mobipocket format that Amazon inherited. I have also maybe the last version of Mobipocket Creator. It supposedly takes MS Doc (prior to 2007 version docx) but works better with clean & simple HTML 3.
I suspect since the first mobi I tried worked, renamed, all the ones from my LibreOffice Writer with extra Save As in docx for Calibre to convert to epub will work converted to old mobi as there is nothing "clever" in them. I just wondered had I missed a setting. If I did a plug-in, I'd replace images with their alt text etc. I'd not use so called AI either. It's curious that this Mobipocket on Nokia S80 supports more fonts than mobi on any of the K1, K2, DX family, or old mobi rather than KF8 on the K3. Really Amazon's Labs 126 was very lazy. I'll experiment to see is anything other than Latin-Roman supported. |
