Kindle Keyboard 3rd Gen - Parental controls blocking everything including USB

Hi, I have a Kindle Keyboard 3rd gen firmware 3.4.2 with parental controls set by a previous owner. It's blocking factory reset, deregistration, and USB connection to PC. I don't have the password. Amazon support can't help. Is there any way to bypass parental controls without USB access?

You need the PIN, I think.

Parental mode on Kindles blocks all previously copied USB books. It's stupid.

You did the long 20 s factory reset?

The case opens easily (start top corner) and the battery (cell) is held on by 2 small screws. Don't lose the washers between PCB and battery!

That's the ultimate reset.

There is also an internal button, but I don't know what that does.

However it's crippled (no collections) without registration and that can't be done now. Even before it often didn't work.

Disconnecting the battery doesn't deregister, or didn't in the past, so it may not affect parental control, which certainly is partially controlled on Amazon's server.

I suspect Amazon don't care.

Can you just type resetmykindle into the parental controls password field, or am I missing something?

I am sorry to hear that you forgot your password for your Kindle Paperwhite. If you are not able to recall this password, you’ll need to reset your device to the default factory settings.

Reset Password on Your Kindle (6th Gen and Newer):

Tap the passcode field.
Type 111222777, and then tap OK.

Reset Password on Your Kindle (5th Gen):

Type "resetmykindle" into the passcode field.
Press the Enter key (below the Del key).

There is a key to hold as well as holding power button for a reset, but it wipes content and registration

A factory reset for the Kindle Keyboard requires accessing a hidden diagnostic menu. Plug your Kindle into its charger. Then, simultaneously press and hold the `Menu` button and the `Back` button for about 30 seconds until a diagnostic screen appears. Use the directional pad to find the ‘Factory Reset’ or ‘Wipe Device’ option and select it.

Code:
Method What It Does When to Use My Verdict
Quick Restart (Power button 5 seconds) A gentle reboot, clears temporary glitches. Minor unresponsiveness, slow performance. Good for everyday sluggishness.
Hard Reset (Power slider 40 seconds) Forces a complete shutdown and restart. Clears memory. Frozen screen, unresponsive buttons, system errors. The go-to fix for serious software hangs.
Factory Reset (Settings menu) Wipes the device completely. Deletes all data. Selling device, persistent issues after hard reset, corrupted software. Last resort. Use with extreme caution.
