Sigil 2.8 Crashes on Win10

Hi there,

I just made a clean install of v2.8, but on starting it crashes.

Windows 10 Pro Version 22H2.
build 19045.7291.
microsoft visual c++ v14 redistributable 14.51.36247.0

Any thoughts?

The launch of Sigil has not changed (that I know of) in 2.8. Same Qt same Python. Can you try Sigil 2.7.0 or 2.7.6 to verify?

I'm running 2.8.0 just fine on Windows 10 Pro (22H2). Check the Event Viewer to see if it gives any hints about what is causing the crash.

Corrupt preferences? Maybe try renaming the sigil preferences ini file?

The event viewer says, C:\Windows\System32\ucrtbase.dll is the cause.
I have no clues what that means.
An install of v2.7.6 now crashed as well.

Hmm ... it seems maybe something is wrong with your runtime libs? Some type of version mismatch? DiapDealer may know more. Have you tried updating your C++ runtime library version?

I'm using the same version of the runtime as him on Windows 10. 14.51.36247.0. There is no newer version.

I would rule out preference corruption like Kevin mentioned. Go into your Sigil preference folder and rename the Sigil.ini file to something else, and then try running Sigil again.

Also make sure you've restarted your machine just to be sure.

And if that doesn't work, try safe mode.

It's possible. Exempting Sigil's program directory and preferences directory should rule that out.

Hopefully, renaming sigil_v6.ini will fix your problem. If it doesn't, run the built-in Windows system file checker:
Open an admin terminal window and run the following command: sfc /scannow

This should also fix broken CRT .dlls. If sfc says "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations." you'll have to repair or reinstall the 14.51.36247.00 runtime files or maybe install an older version.

(On my machine v14.38.32919.00 is installed and Sigil 2.8 works fine.)
