Question Highlights don't sync between content server and desktop application

Hello!

I have a question about the content server feature.

Bookmarks don't sync between the desktop application and the content server. It's as if I have two separate versions of the eBook.

What makes it especially confusing is that when I download the eBook using the content server, it downloads the version from the desktop application. This results in me being unable to view highlights made through the content server on the desktop Calibre application.

Is this intended behavior?

Steps to reproduce:
  1. Open an eBook with the desktop Calibre application
  2. Highlight some text
  3. Open the same eBook using the content server
Or
  1. Open an eBook using the content server
  2. Highlight some text
  3. Open the same eBook with the desktop Calibre application
Or
  1. Open an eBook using the content server
  2. Highlight some text
  3. Download the same eBook using the content server
Actual result:
The created highlight is not present.

Expected result:
The created highlight should be visible in both the desktop application and the content server.

Is there a way to have it function as described above?

My use case:
I highlight important bits of text in an eBook on my mobile device. Later, I convert those highlights to notes.
The desktop app allows for better multitasking, so I prefer to use that whenever possible.

Currently, I use the content server on my desktop as well to have access to the notes. This is cumbersome to work with because I constantly have to switch between the highlight view and the book view to read the context of every highlight.

System information:
Version: Calibre-9.7
Environment: Docker

I should've spent some more time dredging the forums for information before making my post.
It seems my question's already been answered here

However, I have created a bunch of highlights without using authentication.

Is there a way to access the highlights made by my "anonymous" user and incorporate them into my new user's ebook?
