Puzzling issue with font in a newly added book

First time ever seeing this.

I download epubs from the library to read on my Kindle. In adding, they get converted to azw3 with my specified font Rockwell, and then I send them to the device.

After reading, I delete them and the loan expires. Has been trouble free for years.

Until a new book yesterday. Not that I think it matters, but it is #8 in the Murderbot Diaries series, Platform Decay.

The problem is that the font on Kindle is corrupted. See the jpg. Opening the book in calibre is fine. If I convert the book with a different font, e.g. Times, or Trebuchet, or Baskerville, it reads normally in Kindle with that font.

Another twist: italic font is unaffected. But normal Rockwell looks like jpg.

That first line begins, "Space was ok to look at". If I highlight the first word, Kindle dictionary opens with the correct word "Space".

You're doing it all wrong. You do not need to embed any font at all. You just put the fonts in a directory called fonts in the root of your Kindle. Then you just choose the font you want. No need to embed at all. So you can stop embedding.

So convert your ePub to KF8 without any embedded font. Then once you have your fonts in the fonts directory, you can select the font you want. That's how it works.

I don't think so. Your selected font should carry over from the previous book.
