I have a PDF book, it's 1.3MB and text is selectable. I want to be able to change formatting to use it with Cool Reader for Android. Unfortunately, it contains ligatures (for instance, "Th" is a single character) and they're absent from the output after converting the file to EPUB, MOBI etc. with Calibre.
I used Microsoft's print to PDF function to make it more compatible with Calibre because I read somewhere that it could work. Unfortunately, it looks like this simply converted every single page to raster images because the output is 400MB. Also, I can copy and paste pages into Photoshop by simply right clicking a page in SumatraPDF and selecting "copy image". Can someone help me out? I'd be okay even with something as basic as plain text. The problem is still the ligatures. I never had to deal with them and now I think they were invented just to make people's lives harder. |

If you have MS Word 2016 or later, try opening the PDF in Word and then save as DOCX and get calibre to convert the DOCX to EPUB/AZW3 whatever. You might be able to 'deal' with the ligatures in Word.

I opened it in Word 16.0 (latest release) and the ligatures were already gone.
