New sequel to Hiero's Journey (classic post-apocalyse SF)

I'm hoping this might come to the attention of fellow old farts, or maybe some not-so-old folks who enjoy post nuclear war stories.

Sterling Lanier's goddaughter finished his last book, Hiero's Answer, and it was recently published as an ebook.

The original Hiero's Journey was published back in the 70s and takes places thousands of years after "the Death" (I assume it was nuclear war, but it's been a long time since I've read it). The hero has telepathic abilities and there are lots of mutated humans and other species. If you played the game Gamma World back in the 80s, Hiero's Journey was a big influence on that. There was an earlier sequel (The Unforsaken Hiero) so this book completes the trilogy.

It's a classic bit of science fiction but the new one was published pretty quietly, so I'm hoping that this might catch the eye of people who might have read the original way back when. It's been decades since I read the first two, so I'm going to reread them and then continue with the new one.

Thanks for the head's up. I read Hiero's Journey in 1979-1980? I'm sure I have my paperback copy somewhere. And played Gamma World. Brutal game.

Ah and Kobo sells it too.

I read Hiero's Journey in the early 90's, I think. Does that make me an old fart? I remember quite liking it back then, bought the omnibus of the first two books a decade ago and the third book this winter. Haven't yet read/reread any of them.

I read it in the 80s, so if you're an old fart, I'm a REALLY old fart. :P
