Talking Hello! o/

Hi, I'm leenie (lowercase L)

I've been in tech and reader spaces for decades, but only discovered this forum after finally getting Linux and actually going in-depth into Calibre usage. I first used Calibre many years ago on Mac, but I can't remember what I used it for or how I managed to forget about it for several years.
I'm still discovering new ways to use it, but my current projects are:
  • Working out how to get DRM off of books I've purchased so I can organize and read them however I'd like. There's plenty of resources to figure things out, it just takes time and focus (and sometimes access to a Windows machine or Kindle) I don't often have.
  • Creating a fan fiction library in Calibre, for which FanFicFare has been invaluable. While I prefer the native fic download function on Ao3, FFF's metadata handling is deeply useful and I've learned some regex in the process.
  • Setting up a personal Calibre server. My computer's inbuilt security does not allow other devices on my network to access the easy Calibre content server and I do not currently have enough knowledge to successfully start a dedicated Calibre server. I've run into several errors so this has been put on the back burner while I chase tasks that are simpler to fix.
  • Figuring out how to customize the Generate Cover plugin and the Calibre interface itself. I have yet to delve into this, but it's definitely something I'll be working on when I get the drive for it!

All that said, I do not have a dedicated e-reader. I mostly use my iphone and occasionally ipad to read, but I will be wanting one in the near future and will likely be checking in for recommendations when I'm ready.

This seems like a really helpful community and I hope I can contribute in the future!

Welcome to MobileRead!

Just a note: if you mean to remove the DRM from your Kindle books, you'd better hurry. Amazon is closing all the loopholes as fast as they can.

@Sirtel A bit difficult when I can’t even install Kindle for PC on my computer to download the files, but I’m thinking I’ll try to work on it this week, thanks. o7
