PW downgraded from 5.6.1.1 to 5.3.3 — JAILBREAK displayed but ;log unresponsive

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to jailbreak my Kindle Paperwhite 1st generation (serial starts with B024, firmware 5.6.1.1) on a Mac.

Here is what I did step by step:

I successfully downgraded from 5.6.1.1 to 5.3.3 using the power button hold method while connected via USB. The downgrade completed normally and I confirmed the firmware version in Device Info.

I then copied the contents of kindle-5.4-jailbreak.zip (from kindle-jailbreak-1.16.N-r19426.tar.xz) to the root of the Kindle, including the file named Update_jb_$(cd mnt && cd us && sh jb.sh).bin. I ran "Update Your Kindle" from the settings menu and saw JAILBREAK displayed at the bottom of the screen.
I then immediately typed ;fc-cache in the search bar as instructed, but nothing happened visibly.

After restarting, ;log returns nothing — the search bar just clears and returns to the home screen with no text appearing in the top right corner. The file developer.keystore is not present at the root of the Kindle. The folders mkk and rp are present at the root, suggesting the jailbreak script did run partially.

I also installed MRPI (kual-mrinstaller-1.7.N-r19303.tar.xz) with the extensions and mrpackages folders at the root, but ;log mrpi has no effect either.

I also successfully installed MKK (Update_mkk-20141129-k5-ALL_install.bin) — the "Update Your Kindle" option was available and completed normally for that one.

My setup: Kindle Paperwhite 1st gen (B024), firmware 5.3.3 (downgraded), Mac OS, jailbreak package kindle-jailbreak-1.16.N-r19426.tar.xz.

Any idea what might be going wrong and how to get the jailbreak fully active? My goal is to install the linkss screensaver hack to display book covers on the lock screen.
