Library file structure is by first name last name - can't change

Hi there,

I've hunted everywhere for a solution to this, but my calibre library file structure seems to be by first name/last name. I would like it to be last name/first name.

My metadata is all correct with "author" being First Name Last Name, but "author sort" being Last Name, First Name. I understood that the calibre library file structure was based off the author sort field, but it doesn't seem to be the case.

Any idea how I can fix this without having both author and author sort being Last Name, First Name?

Any help would be fantastic!

You can install the Quality Check plugin and change the author names to be the way you want.

You can't. The only way is to have both as Last Name, First Name (can be changed in bulk with the Quality Check plugin).

There is a Preferences: TWEAKs to change the default sort (for new entries. You need to run an sort update for existing).

BUT WHY. You should really treat the Library folder as a black box. (any manual change will damage the linkages )
The various 'Send To' tools use templates to set how you want it delivered to your devices. default was {authors} - {title}

Hi all,

Thanks for the help. I know it is an odd thing but I was hoping to change it because I want to store the library on my Dropbox - but my husband also grabs books from the same Dropbox and was hoping to make it easier for him to find them when he wanted by having it sort by last name. As my Dropbox has enough room, I will just keep two copies - one the calibre library in its own sort method, and a "save to disk" version where it sorts by last name.

Thanks for the fast help!

Bad plan trying to use DropBox:
https://manual.calibre-ebook.com/faq...rked-drive-nas

Quote:
Do not put your calibre library on a networked drive.

A filesystem is a complex beast. Most network filesystems lack various filesystem features that calibre uses. Some don’t support file locking, some don’t support hardlinking, some are just flaky. Additionally, calibre is a single user application, if you accidentally run two copies of calibre on the same networked library, bad things will happen. Finally, different OSes impose different limitations on filesystems, so if you share your networked drive across OSes, once again, bad things will happen.

You can keep the saved to disk copies, but do not keep your calibre library on Dropbox unless it's a backup. I keep a backup of my calibre libraries on OneDrive, but I do not use them with calibre.

Keeping a library in Dropbox is relatively safe as long as you always pause syncing while calibre is open and access your library with calibre from one computer only.

Constant background sync and multi-device access will corrupt your library.
