Can anyone please view attached samples with his DR1000?

Hello,

I am considering buying DR1000, but since 700 euro is rather big investment for me, I need to check whether it really matches my needs. I would like to kindly ask someone who already owns the device to try to view enclosed sample files (similar content, processed in three different ways) and tell me what is the result, most importantly, what is the refresh rate when turning pages.

(I own large library of scientific books that I want to scan and carry around in an e-reader device. I prefer scanning to images, so if you know that some device would be better in this regard than DR1000, but would not at the same time significantly constrain readibility due to its smaller screen, please tell me.)

Thank you

Hi Hnevmir,

These are my experiences with your files.

The first and 2nd document seem to contain scanned images of the book. As you can read in other threads on this forum, the DR1000 is not good at that.
The first takes a long time to load, but then doesn't display anything... so this is clearly not acceptable.

The 2nd loading takes about a minute and turning pages also takes ages (> 5 sec) when quikcly turning pages, but the reader seems to render some next pages in the background, so after reading the 1st page the next page is quickly shown (~3sec)
So this might be reasonable. Maybe reducing the resolution of the scanned images might improve performance.
Although .. now that I am playing a little bit with the document (jumping to pages) it also seems to crash... could be that the reader is in al instable state after the crash of the first document

The third sample however contains text only (hence its small size) and load in less then 10 seconds using the default reader. Turning pages takes two to three seconds. Also jumping to other pages is very quick. I consider this a good speed to read/use books.

I am using the DR1000 to read magazines like Better Software and DrDobbs as pdf-files. This functions pretty well, although some pages take 'ages' (> 5sec) to display and starting-up a pdf also takes considerable time. But it allows me to use my time to travel to work by train usefull.

My Iphone camera does not do it justice but book 1 and 2 are scanned in greyscale so thay come out a little washed while 3 is actual text and looks nice and black on the screen (plus is a lot faster)
