Out of ideas, please someone help! Date Added issue

Hi,

Really grateful for any support. I've been trying to solve this issue for a few days and seem to be going around in circles.

I have a new Kobo Libra Colour, first time outside the Kindle/Amazon Ecosystem.

My library in Calibre has books listed by the date that they were added into Calibre. I like this, it's how I want it. But I also want it to be that way when I import the books to the Kobo. I don't know how to force it to do this. Kobo shows all my books alphabetically (or it can do most recently opened within Kobo) but that's it. When I try to select the view as 'Date Added', nothing happens, it remains showing in alphabetical order.

I feel like there must be a simple answer to this, but I've gone round the houses looking at Reddit and on this forum and youtube videos, and I haven't found any answer.
Thanks.

I don't think it can be done. Kobo has no way of knowing when the books were added to calibre, it's not part of the metadata the device is capable of displaying.

You can add the date to the book details or the subtitle, but it can't be sorted on.

It would be a pretty ugly hack, but the only way I can think of would be to create a Calibre plugboard to prepend the 'Date' to the Title in a yyyy-mm-dd format.

Wow, this is so surprising, but I'm grateful to know, thanks.
Seems so unusual - the Kindle could always just display the books as I added them in that order. With a large library (1000+) created over many years, I wish there were a simple solution. Seeing books I got from 7 years ago at the front of the list is just weird.

Well, there are many ways to sort books. Kobo has automatic collection creating, based on calibre tags or custom columns. You could create collections based on year added, for example.

If you have an empty Kobo, you can display the books in the order you've added them. But as soon as you open any other then the first one, you will no longer be in that order as that book's date will have changed.

Yes, this is exactly what I want! I just don't know how to do it. The first time I added the books, I did it from the earliest in my library and in small batches. But they wouldn't show up as recently added, only alphabetically.

I have removed all the books in an attempt to try to figure out how to get this to work.

The previous poster suggested tagging by year, which I guess will be the best of the not-great-solutions. But if you think this is possible what you're saying, please let me know what I need to do / what I'm doing wrong! Thank you.

If I’ve understood you correctly, I believe it’s possible to do this via the Kobo Utilities plugin:

This. I've had to reformat my Kobo a few times, and each time I've used KU to change the dates on my device. It is also worth using KU to back up your reading progress status for the same reason.

Kobo does have a sort by date added. You would have to add them to the kobo in the order you want. That would... take a while for 1000 books.
