AZW3 to ePub issue related to svg image

I initially started this over in the KFX Output plugin area because at first I thought it was only related to azw3 to kfx. But....it isn't. So hopefully I can sum this up well!

Calibre: 9.5

Book...a romance novel that went free on Amazon. It was sent to my K5 and I then brought it into Calibre, so AZW3 format.

I wanted to convert to KFX just because when I send to my newer device, I've been sending as KFX. Well, the AZW3 to KFX convert failed. Error E21018.

So then I tried AZW3 to EPUB. Which initially looked like it worked. At least, it completed with no errors. But...when I started looking more deeply, it also was not right and is related to the svg file. During the azw3 to epub conversion, the svgimg0003.svg just gets omitted? Removed? Not sure...but it is not present in the epub after conversion. (The image is a graphic that appears under each chapter heading.)

I'm attaching 4 images hopefully.

First, the initial popup error when azw3 to kfx failed
Second, from the job info/log for the azw3 to kfx
Third, an image showing the svgimg0003 file that is part of the azw3 file
Fourth, an image showing that the svgimg0003 is not present in the converted epub file.

I do see that the data for the svgimg0003 is really complex and long? I am assuming that is related to the issue but I could be very wrong.

Any suggestions welcome. I will be happy to provide whatever additional images or logging suggested?

Did you use calibre's conversion pipeline to convert the .azw3 to ePub or did you use the KindleUnpack plugin? KindleUnpack generated an ePub where the svg images show in calibre's viewer and the KFX generated from converting the ePub seems okay on a PW4.

Just straight Calibre. Right click on book > convert > individually > azw3 input > epub output.

But...I do have KindleUnpack installed but I pretty much never use it so I didn't even think about it. So I will try it and see how it goes for me.

And actually...that failed for me too.

Clicked on KindleUnpack > KF8 to Epub and it created the epub which looked ok...so then tried to convert that epub to kfx and got the same E21018 error.

Odd. I didn't get any errors other than KFX output whinging about Kindle Previewer 3.103.0 which is not supported yet.

I suspect this is going to need to head back to wiser heads than ours. I did notice that you show an PW3 as the output profile while I use tablet as the output profile and default profile as the input profile (calibre => Preferences => Common options => Page setup). There are other options that have been changed from the defaults as well so I'm wondering it one of them might be the issue such as the remove first image: true.

looks like you got it. I changed: remove first image: true and it finally worked. I've had that checked for a while...don't remember when exactly, but must have been converting something where I needed it...maybe? And I left it and that was what was killing this one apparently.

But....it isn't. So hopefully I can sum this up well! Calibre: 9.5 Book...a romance novel that went free on Amazon. It was sent to my K5 and I then brought it into Calibre, so AZW3 format. I wanted to convert to KFX just because when I send to my newer device, I've been sending as KFX. Well, the AZW3 to KFX convert failed. Error E21018. So then I tried AZW3 to EPUB. Which initially looked like it worked. At least, it completed with no errors. But...when I started looking more deeply, it also was not right and is related to the svg file. During the azw3 to epub conversion, the svgimg0003.svg just gets omitted? Removed? Not sure...but it is not present in the epub after conversion. (The image is a graphic that appears under each chapter heading.) I'm attaching 4 images hopefully. First, the initial popup error when azw3 to kfx failed Second, from the job info/log for the azw3 to kfx Third, an image showing the svgimg0003 file that is part of the azw3 file Fourth, an image showing that the svgimg0003 is not present in the converted epub file. I do see that the data for the svgimg0003 is really complex and long? I am assuming that is related to the issue but I could be very wrong. Any suggestions welcome. I will be happy to provide whatever additional images or logging suggested? Attached Thumbnails

KindleUnpack generated an ePub where the svg images show in calibre's viewer and the KFX generated from converting the ePub seems okay on a PW4.

Right click on book > convert > individually > azw3 input > epub output. But...I do have KindleUnpack installed but I pretty much never use it so I didn't even think about it. Clicked on KindleUnpack > KF8 to Epub and it created the epub which looked ok...so then tried to convert that epub to kfx and got the same E21018 error.
