Dan Simmons has passed at age 77
I really enjoyed the Hyperion Cantos, sad to hear this:

That IS sad. I lost interest in a lot of his later works, but the Hyperion books were game-changers for me.

Well, this is startling news - to me.
A drink and a re-read of Song of Kali and/or Carrion Comfort. (The latter is available on Amazon's [U.S.] KU, by the way.) |

Hyperion Cantos were amazing, although after a few bad experiences I'm weary of reading anything he wrote after 9/11.

I'm giving the 4 Hyperion Cantos books a re-read. I've only read one of his later books and The Abominable was, to me, rather disappointing (think it was 2013?).

I'd loved his Shrike character, and the Cantos of Martin Silenus, the cybrid Keats (A. Bettik), the idea of the "Tombs of Time", and the juxtaposition within the time-travels (faster-than-light and time-debts) characteristics (Shrike and the TechnoCore also shows a kind of that feature)..
Liked the covers made for the translated versions, too: https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/...L._SL1500_.jpg https://blogger.googleusercontent.co...yperion-2-.jpg Didn't watched this one: https://blogger.googleusercontent.co...aUNr5vq=s16000 Last edited by nana77; 03-03-2026 at 03:27 AM. |
