Page column or chapters

I just noticed in the detailed info section (on calibre's screen) there is a duplication of "page":

Code:

Folder        Book files
Pages         788
Pages         97
Status date   20 Feb 2026

The second value is number of chapters in the book. What is the first one?

And some books in my library do not have that first big number, just the number of "pages" which match number of chapters.

Do you have Count Pages PI installed? That will be one of those.
Calire added Bookshelf view" in version 9.x. If you used that, the column gets added to be used to determine the spine width. You can't change how that counts, which is a good reason to keep the PI)

To find out which: right click the column header: Add your own columns: One of those will have a Lookup name (Starts with a #). That is the PI one
I suggest you change the name in the Column Header column to something different. I used PagesPI. You can't change the lookup name.

No, "Count Pages" plugin is not installed.
But I first encountered it while looking at the books processed with FanFicFare - hence the question was posted in its thread.

Renamed the custom column "#pages" to "#chapters". After Calibre restart - went to FFF's configuration - re-assigned custom column "Chapters" to receive chapter count.

Problem solved.
