Sending books via Email via "Connect/share"

New user here - one of my first actions in Calibre was to try to email a book via the "Connect/share" button. This popped up a panel for a new email address. I tried populating this with the information of one of my Kindle addresses.
The attempt to send the book failed - I don't recall the particular error.
At that point, I wanted to go back into that panel and try editing the information but going through the "Connect/share" button would not provide a means to edit it.
I finally found that going to "Preferences"->"Sharing"->"Sharing books by email" gets me to that panel where the email server info is displayed. I have not tried updating this yet but just wanted to put this out here in case anyone else is consequently having similar issues getting to the server info.

If you used GMX as the sender, did you configure your GMX account to allow POP/IMAP?

Thanks for the reply. I did not try GMX but understand now that is what I should have tried. For now, I will probably just stick with sending via my main email independently of Calibre.

Due to a problem, Hotmail and Gmail protocols are not working.

The root of the problem: The end of "less secure apps"
Historically, Calibre used simple authentication (username and password). However, Google and Microsoft (Hotmail/Outlook) have disabled this access to protect users from brute-force attacks.

No they disabled SMTP so they can show their users more ads. Brute force protection is trivial to do with SMTP.

I don't understand...when did they disable SMTP? I'm using SMTP with 3 different google accounts right now, in 2 different apps. (Thunderbird on my PC and Blue Mail on my phone) The only time I ever access my gmail accounts through a web browser is if I am on a computer that is not my normal home computer.

It doesn't really matter to me anymore, because I no longer email books to Amazon from Calibre (or from anywhere else, actually) but I think that language matters.

Saying that the only way to access gmail is by using Google's website is incorrect...and it's easily proven that it's incorrect.

You cannot use Gmail SMTP without OAUTH. OAUTH is not part of the SMTP protocol. Ergo GMAIL does not support SMTP. The idea that I have to run a fucking browser to be able to send email, something I have been doing since before browsers existed is absurd. The language is absolutely precise and perfectly correct.
