Montgomery, L. M.: Chronicles of Avonlea. v1. 22 Feb 2026

A companion volume to the Anne of Green Gables series.
Set in the fictional Canadian village of Avonlea, these twelve tales explore the lives of various townspeople, their courtships, feuds, and second chances. While it is sometimes marketed as part of the “Anne of Green Gables” series, Anne Shirley appears only briefly: she has a supporting role in “The Courting of Prissy Strong” and stars in “The Hurrying of Ludovic”. Most stories feature other Avonlea residents as they navigate love, family conflicts, and unexpected encounters that transform their lives in this intimate community portrait.

================
Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery (1874–1942) is best known for a series of novels beginning with Anne of Green Gables (1908). Montgomery gained international recognition during her lifetime as a result of her portrayal of the title character, orphan Anne Shirley. A prolific writer, she published 30 essays, 500 poems, 530 short stories, and 20 novels. Almost all of her works remain in print today. Although her work is frequently categorized as "juvenile fiction," adults continue to be devoted readers.
