Montgomery, L. M.: Anne of Avonlea. v1. 20 Feb 2026

In this sequel to Anne of Green Gables 16-year-old Anne Shirley takes her place among the “important” and “grown up” people of Avonlea society, as its only schoolteacher, and must balance her imaginative teaching methods with newfound responsibilities. She is also a founding member of the Avonlea Village Improvement Society (A.V.I.S.), which tries to improve (with questionable results) the Avonlea landscape. Now an independent young woman with a knack for trouble and misadventures, Anne gains new insights about love, friendship, and the ways of the world.

================
Lucy Maud Montgomery (1874–1942) was a prolific Canadian author, best known for a series of novels beginning with Anne of Green Gables, published in 1908. The title character, orphan Anne Shirley, made Montgomery famous in her lifetime and gave her an international following. Her writing is often classified as “juvenile fiction”, but adults remain faithful readers. Virtually all her writings remain in print today.
