Genre/Subgenre hierarchy view in metadata window

I've created the custom column #genre with a hierarchy for the subgenres.

My question is: Can you manage the settings so the hierarchy is also visible in the detail view of editing metadata?

See pics in attachement.

Thank you.

Open edit metadata then expand it to full screen size, adjust the field size to what you prefer.

Hi

Thank you for the response. I tried it but that wasn't what I was looking for.

I've applied the hierarchy to my custom column, now in the side bar I have a dropdown of subgenre for each genre. That is what I want.

Now when i go to edit metadata for a book, and I go to the field for #genre on the right there is a buton (123). When I click on that I see all existing genres/subgenres but they read as Action.War (2nd pic original post).

How can I change this view to a hierarchy one?

You are talking about Genre in the Tag Browser.
If you have set it up correctly, there is a small arrow at the left edge, that exposes the 'subs'
BTW 123 is the count for the line item (total if you have subs)

BTW another test on the setup being correct. (builds a search)
Click on the 'genre' You should see a Green plus. If you click again, it should change to 2 pluses (all subs included)

You can't, calibres implementation of hierarchical classification is notational - similar to recorded music ragging [sic].

I suspect you'd prefer a formal taxonomy/controlled vocabulary approach which would be maintained independently of the items (books) to which it was applied… that's not what most consumers want, its too bureaucratic.
