Possible to change pronunciation?

I have kind of a weird corner case question. Is it possible to change how the text-to-speech pronounces specific words?

The reason I am asking is that there are some specific words that certain of the translations mispronounce, that really irritate me. For instance, I am reading David Weber's Honor Harrington saga, and the American voices pronounce the word "Manticore" as mant-I-core, with a long I an the emphasis in the word on the I. The British voice pronounces it correctly, as MANT-i-core, also with a short I, which is the way I have always heard it pronounced, going back to my days as a kid playing D&D.

I can listen to it in a British voice, the problem is that it chokes on other words, like "Duquesne", which I have always pronounced as "du-kane", and I believe the American accents get that one right.

Another one that is kind of annoying in more than one book is the TTS engine does not grok that Mr. == Mister. So it will say (usually repeatedly in a conversation "M-R-President" instead of "Mister President" as intended.

Is there a way to tweak the pronunciation of words in the TTS?
