Hello! I'm looking for DiapDealer to ask about Sigil x86 edition, but theme is closed
My name is Serge, I'm newbie in book and manual translation, My project is translating music software and hardware manuals for musicians, who can't read on english then didn't use all possabilities of their software and hardware for most powerful making an art of music. I'm doing it on travel from work to home using a one and only really pocket x86 PC - Sony P-series laptop. Sad thing now. I love my P-Series VAIO, but it's very silly in computing power (It's made on ATOM processor family) and it works well only on Windows XP. It's really good and comfortable to translate on it, using Word 2010 for text writing and correction and STDU viewer for look on original PDF. But when it's time to convert final work to epub, I'm in throuble. I should transfer my docx file to my home computer, and there is Sigil, but there I have not enough time to finish work, home routine, childs and wife, you know, it's more time in transport with my P-Series laptop. I hope I found the reason - DiapDealer unofficialy had relesing old versions of Sigil, compiling it on the x86 libraries, what work on x86 Windows XP Platform, but now that repository is not accesseble, and I found no another place with that releases in the Internet. If it possible, I want to get a copy of that last and, maybe old releases to try to use it on my lovely x86 P-laptop for a good job, useful for alot of musicians worldwide. Thank you, DiapDealer, and all the people! |

I honestly couldn't tell you the last version of Sigil (legacy or otherwise) that would work with Windows XP. The latest 32-bit version of Sigil that would work with Windows 7 is version 1.9.30. I gave up trying to stay compatible with XP long, long ago. The current Sigil feature set is just not compatible with XP and the latest Sigil Qt dependencies.

For the record... I have no machines with an old enough version of Microsoft Visual Studio installed to even build XP compatible binaries (let alone an XP installation to test on). Without a lot of manual tricks, Visual Studio 2019 16.7, was the last version to fully support building XP compatible binaries with the v141_xp toolset. GitHub's oldest Action Runners are in the same boat. I could not build an XP compatible version of Sigil (even an ancient version) if I wanted to. I'm very sorry.
Maybe someone who has archived a working Sigil installer for XP that they'd be willing to share will see this and share? That's your best hope right now, I'm afraid. I'll look through my personal archives, but I don't hold out much hope. I can't even remember what the newest feature set for one of my XP legacy builds would have included. Looks like the last release of my unofficial legacy-sigil with XP support was for Sigil v0.9.13 back in March of 2019. I have no recollection of deleting the legacy-sigil repo from my personal Github account, but clearly, I seem to have done that. That last release would have been built with Visual Studio 2013 using Qt5.6.2 and Python 3.4 (Python 3.5 left XP behind). For reference: Python 3.9 reached end-of-life in October of 2025.
Sigil 0.9.13 was about as far as Sigil could have gone on Windows XP. I regret that the repo with its releases was deleted, though. That shouldn't have happened. The MobileRead thread for my Unofficial Legacy Windows Release is still available: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=247156 |
