Unregistered (blacklisted) Kindle PW1 Jailbreak and extensions
Can someone please give me instructions to follow to get KOReader up and running on this kindle?
Information for this particular kindle is scattered across multiple threads and all of them seem to have incomplete or outdated information, so I'd really appreciate it if someone could give me working instructions on what to do. Heres what I've done so far: The kindle was on 5.6.1.1, so I downgraded it to 5.3.3. I then did the K5 jailbreak. I didnt bother with any hotfix since the K5 jailbreak thread doesnt mention it. The jailbreak was presumably successful since I did see ***JAILBREAK*** at the end of the process. My next step was to get MRPI and KUAL. MKK already came with the K5 jailbreak so I didnt bother manually downloading mkk again, at least not at this stage. I extracted mrpi and copied the two folders to the root directory of the kindle. I then extracted kual and copied the 2.0.azw2 into the documents folder of the kindle. Note: I used the regular kual snapshot, not the coplate one. I didnt see any difference made by mrpi, no ui change, no new booklet, no new option, nothing. I did see a booklet for kual called kindle launcher though, the one with the egg cover. I tried running it, but it gave me an error about not being signed by an authorized developer. So I did a bit more digging and realized it had something to do with the mkk that came with the k5 jailbreak having expired or something. So I tried to manually get the mkk snapshot, extracted it, put the .bin in my kindle's root directory (I didnt touch the old mkk), and updated the device. Even this didnt work though, since I still got the same error on trying to open Kual. Can someone please help out? P.S: Im not sure if I was supposed to ask this in an already existing thread or if its fine making a new thread for this, please excuse me. |

Install hotfix (from Snapshots).
Upgrade back to fw 5.6.1.1. Reinstall hotfix again just in case, do 2 more reboots. Delete that azw2 kual, install booklet (non-coplate, from Snapshots thread) version of KUAL. It should work (if you already installed MKK / DevCert K5 bin from Snapshots thread punished in April 2025. AFTER the last time you installed hotfix since hotfix bundles the expired keystore you need to fix that with DevCerts bin). There's zero reason for using azw2 / kindlet KUAL on PW1 on year 2026. Egg cover with honeycomb thing = kindlet KUAL ( = azw2 file on Documents folder) . Booklet KUAL doesn't have any cover thumbnail / it used generic cover template. Thanks for the reply! What about mrpi? Since I did put the two mrpi folders I got from extracting the snapshot into the root directory of the kindle and that did nothing. Also would I be able to reset the kindle to get it to a clean state to try and jailbreak it again following your instructions?

If the device is currently still jailbreaked (is it??) why would you reset and redo everything again?
As for MRPI: "installing" it / copying files into your Kindle doesn't and isn't supposed to add eny new "book" entry. MRPI is simply a shell script packaged as a KUAL extension that's also somewhat counterintuitively also uses to install KUAL (booklet version) itself That's possible because there's an alternative method of runing mrpi: by using ;log mrpi search bar command. And that method is usually used to install KUAL booklet. (jailbreak and/or installing the hotfix is what defines / injects that ;log command) What happens when you type that into the search bar and execute the search? p.s. Snapshots archive for KUAL should IIRC include a hotfix KUAL bin installer file that's installable using "Update Your Kindle" ( = no need to use MRPI).
