A second kindle device in the family questions

Hi;
My wife has a new kindle device. I have used mine for years.
I use eCalibre to manage my books to upload to my device, delete from my kindle after read, maintain it in ecal, etc.

How do I add her device to the same eCalibre program so that I can keep a separate view of what books I have uploaded to her new device from the current ecal library, when I upload books to ecal only for her to read to have those show in her library, when after she reads a book and deletes it from her device but have it shown as read in her library, and be able to export/backup her library separate from mine?

Thank you in advance for your help in accomplishing these items.

I update eCalibre as they are available.

I usb from computer (windows) to the device.

Thank you.

It seems that the best solution would be to create a separate physical library for her and copy the books she reads to that. Click on the library icon -> Switch/create library.

After you've created a new library, select the books in the old library she wants to read, right-click -> copy to library.

Assuming a major chunk of your books books are shared between youze All

An alternate is to add a Tag to the books uploaded.
"OnHers", "OnMine"

and create a VL (template) to show which.

Kovid how hard would it be to create a Tag as part of the send to Device process . The defined tag would be per device ( serial#, a value set/stored in the driveinfo.calibre on each device )

There would be an additional problem with marking books as read by one, but not the other. Would need two separate custom columns, or a custom column with two separate values for that. Personally I think two physical libraries would be simpler and less confusing, but YMMV.

That's how I did it with me having a Kobo Clara HD and my duaghters Glo. Works great. Just make sure you're in the correct library before you start adding/deleting books....ask me how I know LOL.

Thank you all for the appreciated help!
I am trying the 2nd library method.
After uploading a book, reading it on one device, then deleting it from the device, it will stay in it's library in ecal. Is there a way to have it automatically mark it as read in ecal?
Thank you.

No, not with a Kindle. You'll have to do it manually.
