I stumbled upon Kindle's "Ask the Book" feature

For the most part I have moved off Kindle and Amazon's bookstore, I am sure everyone knows why..

Anyway, I was out in the world with my ipad without my other ereaders and wanted to read a chapter of my current book which was one I had to buy on Amazon in the past because the book not available anywhere else.
So I downloaded the kindle app, signed in, downloaded the book and jumped to where I was in the book. Then I went to change font settings and saw this little star icon (like most AI icons).
Turns out this is a feature called "Ask the Book". It allows you to ask questions about anything in the book you are reading and it gives you an answer taking into consideration where you are in the book so that the answer does not spoil anything. At least that is my understanding.

I think it is pretty cool and is useful for those 800+ door stopper books. Reading about it online it seems pretty new. It isn't on my Kindle ereader, nor is it available in the Kindle android app yet. Also it seems it has caused some drama with authors getting their underwear in a twist. But as a reader/consumer/customer it could be really helpful.

Amazon just trying to find ways to pull me back in lol. But I resist so far lol.

It's supposed to come to Kindles (I think the ones still getting updates) 'early this year'. And Android app.

Unfortunately it seems there are not many books that have this feature yet. I'm mired halfway through Pynchon's Vineland and could really use a refresh of what has happened.

Yeah, both Recaps and 'Ask the Book' are admittedly nice features.

I know you said you haven't been using Amazon, but I'll point out that this was in the news a month back: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=371118

Yeah vaguely aware it was reported which is why I said I stumbled into it as instead of thinking I was announcing anything new.
