Kindle DX CFW?

Since DX is no longer supported is there a custom firmware for this? Something that gets rid of the Amazon store entries etc and allows for easy date setting and other features would be nice. I am not referring to custom launchers or reader apps but a rewrite/hack of the OS itself. Is that possible?

It's possible. Has it been done, not that I've ever read about and if there was such, I would expect someone on MR to start a thread on it.
