[KOBO] Help with Metadata Transfer
If I add series information to the metadata, how can I be certain that when I send a file to my KOBO that the series data will go over with it? Also, if I fix an author's name, how can I make sure that fix also goes over?
Also, what does "update cached metadata on device" actually do? I spent a lot of time updating the metadata, so I want to make sure it that comes through on my device. Thanks. |

Open the configuration for the KoboTouch plugin and open the Metadata, on device & advanced tab. If you hover over these settings they will tell you more information. Series in particular is tricky because it can only be added to books after they have already been processed by your device. This means you need to: 1) Upload the book to your device; 2) Disconnect your device so that it will process the new sideloaded book; 3) Reconnect your device; and 4) Update the metadata for that book.
You should also read the hover text (“tooltip”) for, “Update metadata on the device”. If this is enabled then when Calibre detects your device, Calibre will match books on your device with the ones in your library, and update the metadata on your device. (This means that step 4, from above, is done automatically for you – but you still need to upload, disconnect, reconnect!) Long story short: you probably want to open your KoboTouch plugin settings, check the tab I mentioned above, and enable both of those settings (“Set series information” and “Update metadata on the device”). And you also need to do a bit of a double-connect dance in order to properly set series information. (This is why some people put a “reconnect USB” setting in their NickelMenu config. It means you can reconnect your device to your computer without physically disconnecting and reconnecting the cable – which contributes to wear.) Last edited by isarl; 12-23-2025 at 01:52 AM. |

Thanks.
I'm using the built in Kobo plugins. I didn't install a KOBO specific plugin, so I'll have to check to see what options exist. I have noticed, however, that after I run the update cached metadata on device, that my reading stats go to zero for the books I'm reading. But not all of them. It's the hours read and the pace.
