Embedded emoji question

I'm currently reading an epub that I bought from the Google Play store. One chapter has some embedded emojis that render fine with both Readest and Google, but show up as question marks in koreader. Does anyone have any ideas about what I need to do to get them to render properly?

Are those dots graphic images? If so, convert them to JPEG. If they are not graphics, you need a font that has those dots.

I don't think they're graphics. This is the html:

<span class="Emoji">🔴</span> (I notice that it even renders correctly here when I paste it from the epub).

And it looks like maybe the embedded font the book uses (but that koreader doesn't have) is called AppleColorEmoji.ttc.

What is the code for class="Emoji" in the css?
Is it using AppleColorEmoji?

I found two entries in the CSS:

@font-face {
font-family: "Apple Color Emoji";
font-style: normal;
font-weight: normal;
src: url(../font/AppleColorEmoji.ttc);
}

span.Emoji {
font-family: "Apple Color Emoji", sans-serif;
font-size: 0.75em;
font-style: normal;
font-weight: normal;
}

The problem is that this is a character and not a graphic and whatever font you are using does not have it.
