Nickle Reader Sync to Readest?

I know that KoReader has a Readest sync plugin, but I prefer the default Kobo reader. Especially how it handles publisher styles. But I wonder, has anyone tried creating a patch/hack to Kobo that syncs the progress from the KoboReader.sqlite to Readest? I feel like it would be possible in a similar way to the walabako plugin that tricks it to sync like it's plugged into a device.

It's not Readest but I've been working on a nickel mod that syncs reading progress to Hardcover.app as you read. My proof of concept works but it needs a lot more polish and testing before I'm ready to release into the wild.

Theoretically after I release the Hardcover.app I could try to make one that syncs to Readest since 80% of it should be the same but that's a long way off so absolutely no promises.
