PocketBook Verse Pro – Battery drain while the device is sleeping (about 5% per day)

--- Title: PocketBook Verse Pro – Battery drain while the device is sleeping (about 5% per day) Message: Hi everyone, I’m using a PocketBook Verse Pro with a magnetic sleep cover. When the device is not in use and the screen is locked, it still loses around 5% of battery per day. I always thought that E-Ink screens use power only when turning pages or when the frontlight is on, but in this case the reader is completely idle and the battery still slowly drains. Before this, I used a Kindle, and in the same conditions the battery lasted for weeks — it could stay unused for a very long time without losing even a single percent. Is this normal for the Verse Pro, or could something else be causing the drain? Has anyone encountered and solved this issue? Any advice would be appreciated! |

My experience with Pocketbooks (I have owned two) is that your "sleep status" battery usage is not that unusual. Pocketbooks start up pretty quickly from off, so going into settings and set it to shutdown after X mins is the best way to preserve battery life.

When I shutdown the device completely the battery last much longer indeed, but it takes quite few seconds (over 20 in total) to boot up and load a book (BTW, I noticed, that some books loads longer in KoReader - some loads almost instantly after boot up, but in case of others there is like additional progress bar which takes another few seconds). It's a downgrade compared to Kindle, where I could open the cover and start reading instantly and the battery was holding for many weeks.
In PB I have to open a cover, press and hold the power button, wait exactly 22 seconds (I just checked with a stopwatch). I could achieve the same as in Kindle here by simply locking the device, but with the cost for battery. I wonder why PB drains so much battery when not used. I have Wifi and BT turned off. Best regards. |

On my older PB Color device, it shows the page to read after booting for about 4 seconds, and then continues booting for about another 10 seconds in the background. This is using the stock reading application. Perhaps your problems are to do with koreader? You could try switching to the stock application temporarily to see if it makes a difference in the battery drain and/or the boot times. If there is a difference, then maybe koreader experts can point to some configuration options that might help reduce battery usage.
