Are there many color e-books?

I am waiting for my new Kobo Libra Colour to arrive, and I wonder if there are many epubs with color illustrations. Or just comics and children's books?
Thanks.

I bought Illustrated Eric on Kobo, but right now STUPID Cloudflare is blocking me on Kobo.

Not that I know. You can search for illustrated on Amazon, thus:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=Illustr...f=nb_sb_noss_2

pick
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Illustrated...dp/B00B4VTJAG/

It's really for the Kindle app on a big Fire, iPad or Android tablet.

Nonvisual reading
Not readable in read aloud and Braille.

The text of this Kindle book is not accessible to screen readers.
All most all ebooks with significant colour are fixed layout. They need usually 11″ or larger tablet.

Almost all novels just have text. A few have mono illustrations, and an even smaller number of reflowable ebooks have colour illustrations.

Covers are mostly colour so they look good on the web shops.

There are also comics in colour. I'm not sure you can buy Comixology for eink? They are Amazon

Also, even if it was reflowable, all Kaleido such as Colorsoft or Kobo Libra Colour have only 4096 shades / brightnesses / colours in total and only pastel, so as to improve mono text. The coloured dot pattern doesn't cover the pixels fully. If it did the screen would be very dark and mono text much poorer.

It doesn't mention reflowable. It isn't. It doesn't work on an 8" Sage.

This version will be reflowable
https://www.kobo.com/gb/en/ebook/eric-14

Usually Kobo does list if a book is reflowable or not.

EDIT
Checked several ebooks on Kobo and that info seems gone from checkout and book page.

Thanks.
I think you'll find that EPUBs that contain color illustrations are typically available through the major e-book retailers and digital libraries sometimes by a book-by-book read-thru. But finding a single comprehensive list somewhere would be challenging because the availability of illustrated e-books depends heavily on publishers choosing to release them in a digital, color-enabled format (I understand often EPUB 3 or fixed-layout formats). There could easily be made a listing one day if publishers allowed all the books to be archived electronically. Then someone could pull such information from the data base.

In the meantime, if you're interested: Some simple examples for color illustrations would, of course include children's picture books (I literally have hundreds of those), recipe cook books because people are naturally drawn to colorful food pictures showing glowing colors to encourage their book to be bought. Art, design, travel guides, fix-it books, colorful pictures will also sometimes be found in classical works.

If it's not PDF, or Kindle, then Fixed layout is Epub3, but not all epub3 are fixed layout.

Almost all the ebooks you mention need an App on a large colour tablet, they are fixed layout and don't work on a 7" screen.

Books for under eight years old are probably better physical and almost all are fixed layout, thus useless on 7″
Any ebook version of a large "coffee table" or large cookery book will be fixed layout. Check size of the paper back or hardback. More than 8" x 6" is likely fixed layout.

Google sells comics on PlayStore Playbooks. Some are DRM free and some are Adobe DRM and some only work in the Google Playbook app. I didn't find any that were reflowable. A few are probably useuable on the Libra Colour, such as Mutant Ninja Turtles, or Manga. Graphic novels won't work.

I bought this on Kobo too
https://www.kobo.com/gb/en/ebook/the-last-hero-8

It's fixed layout. Only really works on my 14.25″ tablet. Just about useable on the 10.9″ tablet. Useless on 8" Sage.

Dont get this for your ereader

I wish I had read the other review before purchasing. I love all of the discworld books, but this is extreamly difficult to read if you are using an ereader and is not worth purchasing.

Caution, fixed layout format!

This book holds a special place in my heart so I was glad to finally pick it up in digital form. Note that this book is prepared in fixed layout format which may require you to pan and zoom a bit. The two-page spreads in particular work best in landscape orientation, so if your device cannot rotate you will be missing out on some of the best art in the book. (You can still see it, but it will be split into left and right pages.) From an accessibility standpoint, unfortunately, the text contents of the HTML documents in this ePub do not match the text contents of the fixed-layout image loaded in for each document. The word count of 28k words likely arises from automatic processing of this erroneous transcription, but the images themselves are fine. The publisher did an excellent job balancing file size with giving Paul Kidby's wonderful artwork enough detail to shine. Thrilled to finally have this on my e-shelf!

I downloaded the book from Kobo and it appears to be a bog standard ePub3 fixed layout. The version synced from Kobo works on my Sage and after downloading to my computer, a simple rename to .fxl.kepub.epub works on my Sage. Not sure if the fxl is still needed but didn't seem to hurt.

The original version of Die unendliche Geschichte is in colour. One for the parts in the fantasy world, the other for the real world. I think one is pink and the other grey or something like kids. It’s been few years since I read it last.

DO NOT USE AMAZON FOR EBOOKS WITH GRAPHICS! Amazon plays games and you could end up with lower resolution and B&W instead of color.

Not too many. But cookbooks often do, and sometimes other non-fiction. You might sometimes see color maps or illustration in the fantasy genre. Or color accents like headings in some books.

But overall, your basic fiction book is mostly not going to have color illustration, unless comics, graphic novels, or children's books as you mentioned.

I was reading a non-fiction library book, and it covered a time period before color photography was around, as well as a time period after color photography the norm, and the author DID some of the photography himself.

I read the book on my BW Kobo Sage, and then, expecting some images might be in color, went to go look at them on my iPad, and to my great disappointment, every single one was a BW image, even though some could easily have been color, and would've been better in color. Sigh.

I did read a non-fiction library book a while back, Still Horse Crazy After All These Years by Jim Wofford, and it turned out to have some color photos when I looked on my iPad.

Whenever I encounter a book that I think might have color, I check via my iPad, if it does, then I tag it in Calibre as having "color content." IF I ever buy a color e-ink reader, I figure it'll be a help.
