What next after Glo HD?
I’ve been using a kobo glo hd since 2017. I love it, but the usb port has recently come loose which means it’s difficult to charge or connect to a computer without holding the cable in a certain position.
Our local phone repairer may be able to repair it, in which case I’ll keep it. The battery life is fab and the screen is sharp. If I need to replace, what would be at least as good or offer real improvements these days? Before the glo hd I had a Sony prs 505 bought in 2008 (should have kept it) and then a prs 350 which was perfect except for no light. I’m UK based and the only library I can use for ebooks is cloud library which means downloading onto a PC then using ADE to transfer to the kobo. Overdrive not available in my county. I did try a Libra2 a while back when I had a work bonus to spend. I think I got a faulty one because the battery only lasted a week at best, so Currys refunded it. My Glo HD lasts a month with reading on it most days. I also found the 7 inch form a bit unwieldy but loved the buttons. Current thoughts are Clara BW, pocketbook verse pro or a secondhand Tolino Wish list: 6 or 7 inch (although a kobo mini/sony prs 350 with a light would be my dream device) Good quality screen at least as good as the kobo glo hd Good battery Buttons a bonus but not essential Any uk experience with either pocketbook or tolino would be helpful insight. Thank you! |

I have a Clara BW and really like it. I only upgraded to a Nook GlowLight 4 Plus a few weeks back due to wanting a bigger screen and page turn buttons.
If you don't mind the lack of page turn buttons, and are interested in a 6" screen size, the Clara BW is a good choice (although to be fair, it was my first non-Kindle device, so I don't have any real experience with brands other than Amazon with the exception of my GlowLight). |

I don't think Nook works in the UK now, though it did for a while. You can't even install the Android App.
Tolino is really "Kobo for the German market". So Clara BW 6″, or Pocketbook 7″ |

I have a Glo HD, a Boox Poke 2 and a Pocketbook Verse Pro.
My daily reader is the Boox, even though its screen is not quite as good as the other 2 and I have to charge it once per week (wifi is off except for downloading from my library). The reason for it being my daily, is that I love using the Calibre Sync app (linked with my dropbox account) to get my books and Alreader XPro is a really good reader app (in my opinion). I bought the Pocketbook Verse Pro because I really like page change buttons and being able to send my books to it by PBSync from Calibre is really useful. However, the in-built reading app is sub-par. KoReader works on it but, in my experience, eats the battery. When I use the Verse, I use the old CoolReader fork - which still works but has not been maintained for some years. I wouldn't buy another Pocketbook unless /until they significantly improved the reader. My Glo fell out of use because I experienced too many USB connection issues with my MacBook. My partner uses it when she has to read an e-book (she loves "dead tree" books) and only loads one book at a time. If I was to buy a new e-reader, I think I would get another Boox but a Kobo would be my second choice (fingers crossed that I had no USB issues). |

It's got the Carta 1300 display, which is the best B/W right now. Your Poke2 battery is aging, but it's still got some life. |
