Calibre COllections in KOReader ala LibrarianSync?

Manually creating, populating and managing collections on the Kindle itself is unwieldy and cumbersome. Fining that one book you want in a sea of three hundred - especially when you don't know the author of the book you want; or even a specific title, you just want a Horror book - is near impossible when the directory structure is author/title.

I have been using Librarian Sync on a Kindle PW3 to create and manage collections via Calibre. Is there no way to manage KOReader collections in a similar manner?

Or, alternatively, is there any way to have the Kindle itself optionally open a selected book in KOReader instead of the built-in reader?

Honestly, the main - and probably only - reason I even stumbled across KOReader is because of the Night Mode feature. Which I obviously would only want to use at.... night

There is this calibre Wi-Fi server plugin on KOReader. I haven’t used it myself, but checkout KOReader user guide (http://koreader.rocks/user_guide/#L2-transferring) and Wiki on Github (https://github.com/koreader/koreader/wiki/calibre)
You basically manage your books once on calibre PC then just move them over to KOReader

I did see that, but I couldn't find any mention of Collections anywhere in relation to that plugin/method. So if I use that to transfer books over, that will create and populate Categories on the Kindle (within KOReader) with the Categories set in calibre?

Also, from what I see, my normal method of transferring books over - i.e. via USB through calibre - does so differently than does the WiFi plugin method. Meaning that, to utilize that along with Categories under KOReader, I would have to either delete the currently loaded books or accept that they would be duplicated between the to readers?

I haven't ever put this Kindle online - didn't want to risk it possibly updating. I have an older model that I put online to get books, transfer to calibre, strip drm and only THEN transfer via USB to the main Kindle. I'll have to think about this.

I appreciate the help.

What is “Collections”? Sorry, I am not familiar with calibre terms. However, it is a metadata column, then on KOReader you can search through calibre metadata.

I'm sorry. You're correct. In calibre, the field is called Tags. There is a calibre plugin called Kindle Collections that uses the Tags column to create a file on the Kindle. That file is then used by the LibrarianSync tool (on a jailbroke Kindle) to create automagically Collections on the Kindle based on that metadata in that file and associate each book with it's appropriate Collection. So, in the default GUI, when you sort by Collection, each Collection is populated with the associated books by these tools rather than having to do each book individually.

OK, two things:
1) Kindle’s own UI and its Collections is not really useful for KOReader because Kindle can’t see and sort all KOReader- and calibre-compatible formats (epub, fb2, djvu, etc) and Kindle UI cannot open those books from Collections in KOReader anyway (there used to be a way many years ago, but it is not supported anymore).
2) KOReader’s File Browser where you select books is just that - a true file browser that shows all supported (or also unsupported files with a setting) files in a list, not collections. There might be a plugin that sorts for that, have a look at, say, Project Title or similar project on KOReader/contrib Github page.

I'll check that out. Thank you.
