I’m actually going to buy it unless it gets really bad reviews, I’ll have to macgyver an air tag to it with some double-sided sticky tape though.

It's got a lanyard to attach your airtag to if you prefer

On my old B&N I used a wired remote.
It was not as nice as wireless, but it was ok.

I had brought out the console UART to a connector on the back of the ereader.
The little box just issued commands like "^Cecho 1 >/dev/inject^J".
This fed an injector daemon which instantaneously clicked the key.

I wrote this when the "input" shell command used to roll out a whole Dalvik VM just to poke a few characters.

I see that on my Onyx Go6 (Android 11) they still do that:

exec app_process /system/bin com.android.commands.input.Input "$@"

"app_process" is what forks a zygote (Dalvik VM). You can see that it refers to a Java class.

While my phone has Android 15 and they fixed that at least:

cmd input "$@"

And "cmd" is an ELF executable that just directly uses Binder.
The difference is that the first way can take up to a second to react.

Since you're not talking Android, this has little relevance.
