Device: Boox Go 7
Downgrade Boox Go 7 Firmware

I've recently updated to the 4.1 firmware and it has not been a great experience. I was wondering whether it was possible to downgrade the firmware to an older version. I found a link to an older 4.0 firmware on here, but I have also read that the device would reject loading older firmware versions using adb so I have not tried it out yet.

Is there a write up on the process of achieving this on here and are there additional requirements for the device (I have read something about using a custom recovery, though I have not found a link).

You must defeat the anti-rollback mechanisms to load something older.
The problem is also that some file structures might have been upgraded already.
There's no guarantee that older firmware will work.

I suggest that you first make a full, raw backup using EDL (64 GB).
Then you'll need to install a custom recovery to install the older firmware.
If things do not work you can restore the backup.
Never do a "factory reset" or a "wipe user data".

I am currently running:
Quote:
edl.exe /r backup
I was not sure about specifying the /u flag but it seems like it is reading something nonetheless.
Quote:
Found EDL 9008, configuring... ok
Requesting info on LUN 0... ok
Requesting read backup... ok, reading 11%
If the /u flag is necessary let me know. I still could not find the custom recovery. What would be the next steps?

Thanks a lot for the recovery Renate. I have managed to downgrade the device using the instructions scattered around the threads on here and it works just fine!
